About Advoke CV
An independent project, maintained by people who write a lot of resumes.
Advoke CV is a free, browser-based resume builder. It was built because the resume-building tools on the market tend to fall into one of three categories: expensive subscriptions, ad-supported tools that sell your data, or template galleries that show you the same single-column layout with ten different colour accents and call them distinct.
Advoke CV is an attempt at something different. It is intentionally lightweight, intentionally private, and intentionally honest about its trade-offs. There is no account system, no server-side database, no analytics that capture the contents of your resume, and no attempt to upsell you to a paid tier. The whole product is a static website that runs in your browser and stores your draft locally on your device.
Who it is for
Advoke CV is designed for three audiences.
Candidates who care about layout. If you have ever spent an hour fighting a word processor to get page breaks where you wanted them, or rebuilt a resume from scratch because switching templates in another builder destroyed the design, this tool is for you. Every template is a real layout, and switching templates never touches your content.
Candidates who care about privacy. If you would rather not upload your employment history to yet another company's servers, Advoke CV is designed for that. Everything you type stays in your browser. The site does not send your resume anywhere. There is no tracking.
Candidates who write in odd places. If you are on a phone between meetings, on a train, or on a slow connection, Advoke CV should still work. The whole editor runs locally, the interface is designed mobile-first, and there is no minimum bandwidth required beyond loading the page once.
How Advoke CV stays free
Advoke CV is a static website. There is no server-side database, no runtime, and no infrastructure to speak of beyond the CDN that serves the files. That keeps the running cost negligible, which is the reason it can stay free without advertising.
The project is also deliberately modest in scope. It does not try to be a full career platform, a cover-letter generator, or a job board. It does one thing — help you build and export a resume — and tries to do it well.
What Advoke CV does not do
Being honest about the limits is part of being useful. Advoke CV does not:
- Store your resume on any server, or sync it across devices. Drafts are local to the browser you are using.
- Offer AI-generated content suggestions. The templates and the guidance are designed to help you write your own resume, not to write it for you.
- Support collaborative editing. This is a single-user tool.
- Provide a cover-letter builder, job board, or salary data.
- Guarantee your resume will pass any specific ATS. Every ATS is different, and the best any tool can do is avoid the formatting that reliably confuses them.
The templates
Advoke CV ships with sixty resume templates across nine categories. Every template has been designed to be a genuinely distinct layout — a different structure, different typography, and a different rhythm — rather than the same document with a different accent colour. Many of the design choices were tested against how real resumes read on paper and on-screen.
The templates are original. They do not reproduce the design, layout, or source code of any other resume product. The project takes inspiration from the general category of "clean resume builders" — the same way a chairmaker is inspired by the category of "chairs" — without copying any specific product.
Contact
Advoke CV does not currently have a public contact form, because a form would require a server and the whole point is to avoid unnecessary infrastructure. If you have feedback, corrections, or a bug report, a public repository and issue tracker will eventually replace this paragraph.
Credits
Advoke CV is written in plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. It uses no third-party frameworks, no external analytics, and no fonts loaded from a third-party CDN — the type stacks fall back to system fonts. The entire product is under 400 KB when first loaded.
